FORWARD.
Movies have been my great escape and reverie for years...and now of course, books again, too.
So...I decided I would write a little blurb regarding a MOVIE that's about BOOKS!
I cannot fully explain why this film had such an impact on me. I watched it for the first time about 3 years ago..and have watched it at least 4 times since. There is always a little something new...a phrase, statement...some small nuance that I notice each time. Sometimes, I pop it in the player while I am doing other things around the house. It's crazy, but I like to have it on in the background.
The true story indeed was a fascinating adventure that began with a more or less 'intellectual curiosity' that soon transformed into an emotional journey for one documentary film maker, who was literally :-) obsessed with finding a long lost, one time author of a book that played a great role in the film makers life.
Although this film is considered a documentary...it plays like a mystery, an ascetically pleasing art film and an intellectual dive into the literary world...all at the same time. The dreamy, heart-chakra drenched background music helps with the mood too.
I will not give anything away here...but there is scene where the film maker (therefore... WE), finally hear something we have waited many minutes to hear...that if it doesn't provoke you to cheer and/or cry...then......turn it off. NO...on second thought, do not turn it off...it only gets better after that!
You may be able to find it at your library...and if you are as enthralled with it as I was you might HAVE TO get your own copy for your 'favorites shelf'...just like those special books you just NEED to know are right there at home with you...it's comforting.
(click on the image of the film at the top of this post if you want to see/read more about it.)

BACK.
In between Italian Pastry making, trying to write a book :-) writing a book... and doing all the other things I have a brand new fresh take on...
I have also acquired a new ADDICTION. I am not a TV watcher, I don't even HAVE Cable!!! In fact I only have 1- 1/2 channels..(which includes PBS, thank goodness since that is mostly all I watch)...but thanks to certain technological breakthroughs..I can keep up with this series that is now in it's second season:
If you like all things '60's like I do...this is a winner. It is a dramatic, retro soap opera of sorts. It does have some lighthearted moments but mostly is jam packed with some sometimes subtle, but more often blatant examples of the 60's slowly changing attitudes towards racism, sexism, classism and so many other ism's that I lost count.
And...the vintage clothes are GREAT!!!.
(How's that for a quick shot of superficiality?)

NOW...
Uh, well..........
I had actually planned on writing a real article this Sunday..but fun and life got in the way...so I will have to make it up to you...maybe even before NEXT Sunday, we will see. I guess you could say I was very much in the NOW...or maybe..I just got distracted. There is a fine line there! :-) But..before you leave...take a look at the right hand column, because there are some changes/additions which include a book/author list, that you might find interesting.
Parallel Visions is STILL under construction. I am "template challenged", but hope to remedy the situation SOON!
Thanks for reading...and you will see me again...in just a few clicks of a mouse!

I'm sitting here with ginger tea and was so pleased to log on and see that you have another Sunday morning post!
I have never heard of The Stone Reader and can't wait to check it out. It reminds me in a different way of Das Energi by Paul Williams, Remember you gave me that book? He had two more published (Remember Your Essence was one) and yet he never reached any kind of true New Age notoriety. Different kind of topic of course, but reading the Stone Reader synopsis made me think of him.
Can't wait for the next post!
